What the Q!
I would like the Democrats not to be anonymous and not to be vague or mild or casual about what might seem to some to be the elephant in the room. And I would like this to happen very very soon.
This phenomenon of QAnon, needs to be discussed out in the open, up front and personal, so we can get a handle on it. And so that we can decide what our consensus is about it, without denying its existence and without pretending it isn’t a clear and present danger, because it is.
My major point is that we as the American people deserve a chance to decide how we feel about a major source of Trumpian support being brought to you/them by people accusing the Democrats of being pedophiles and that’s only for a start. Oh, and also Democrats are muddying the swamp with their filth and corruption and anyone against Trump is part of a deep state conspiracy.
Oh, yes, and that they/we (in this case) are cannibals. This cannot be serious, oh but it is. Sidebar: In Poland, there was in some parts the belief that Jews ate (yes, ate) Christian children. As such it was not so uncommon for Polish parents of missing children, to go to Jewish communities searching for their lost offspring. On the Yad Vashem (The World Holocaust Remembrance Center) website in an article entitled“Anti-Jewish Violence in Poland after Liberation”, there is in writing “…in 1945, there was a wave of anti-Jewish pogroms in Poland, sparked by rumors that Jews had committed ritual murder: the age-old canard that Jews killed Christian children to use their blood for ritual purposes such as making matzo or wine.” (https://www.yadvashem.org/articles/general/anti-jewish-violence-in-poland-after-liberation.html)
As we were saying or as I was thinking, is there a connection between some of the darker images of anti-Semitism and the current (QAnon) accusations of Democrats being cannibals? Something we, and Jews everywhere as I include myself, might want to be considering.
Meanwhile, I have heard that the Democrats are not capable of being as mean as the Republicans. Some suggest this is why the Democratic Party may not win the Election. I for one am not so sure. There wasn’t anything gentle or delicate about Hillary Clinton calling Trump advocates a “basket of deplorables”. One could hardly accuse her of an overly light touch.
What is called for right now, however, is not aggressiveness per se, but rather the combination of courage and clarity it would take to assert and confirm the presence of this elephant in the room, and why it is so dangerous. This and the capacity and willingness to explore what it would take to help a beleaguered public see the facts of the matter just as clearly.
When Trump spoke on August 21, 2020 to a conservative group in Arlington, VA he said, “I am the only thing standing between the American dream and total anarchy, madness and chaos…I am the only one who can save the United States from this total anarchy and chaos”.
Say what? Nobody says this, nobody says he/she is the only one to do anything, least of all to run a country and least of all to run a country that itself runs on checks and balances and whose wisdom is incorporated in no one person or branch of government being of supreme importance.
Trump is threatening us with violence. He is predicting violence in ways that would be considered by most as a threat, in and of itself. What’s more, his very language is an act of violence. It is one thing to have a Presidential candidate promising the best and fearing the worst. And it is another to have him accept the role of savior of a group whose psychotic rants are frighteningly close to becoming mainstream, to becoming normalized. I know this is a person — that would be DT — who likes to be liked, or loves to be liked and craves being liked, but still this is too crazy.
The rest of us are tired and scared and have had and still have Covid 19 in our midst. As such many of us have had terrible losses, personal and economic and loss of life and loss of loved ones. Some people alarmed by Trump as President and as Trump as an arrogant and ineffective leader during the virus, have thought and even hoped, that his abysmal handling (or non-handling) of Covid might in fact cost him November’s Election. But what if the opposite is true?
What if the pandemic is used, in bold faced and subliminal messages and convincingly to too many people, as a sign of the chaos only Trump can save us from? This is scary, very very scary. As such we need not to be distracted from this danger.
Looking at the danger, can be like looking at a fire endlessly, the burning either becoming mesmerizing and numbing, or instead leading to depletion and fog. As such we also need help to cope. We need the help of people capable of exploring this kind of egregious manipulation and fear mongering, people who can help us pave the way to fight its power.
We need the help of leaders who can see into the deadly fire of these threats and this violence, and who can help us chart a way out of panic and into strength. Into strength that will ensure a safe and valid election and a safe and possible transition into the potential for the coming four years not poisoned by psychosis. The alternative — the winning out of a psychopathy that like a vampire can play on the anxieties present in all of us — is too brutal to entertain.
Anon, anon. There is no time like the present. And besides we really don’t have time to spare.
