Have you ever met a very smart person, perhaps even a brilliant one, who believes his/her/their lover or partner even when accusations, let’s say, really make no sense?

Years ago I had a few friends who basically were bullied by a partner who was often a moody, brooding lover who found fault easily and often. My friend would parry to my wondering: “Well, but he says I’m the selfish one.” It made no sense to me until one day, figuratively speaking, it went bingo! And I realized a dynamic that wasn’t so obvious on the surface.
