Making the Space for Sadness in the New Year

This isn’t a resolution, but rather a thread. It’s a sense of importance, one that isn’t delegated to the New Year alone, but perhaps it has more meaning now because it is a new year that is beginning at any moment.

As a psychotherapist, I have been drawn to patients and clients as to a community, in the sense that many if not all people who seek therapy are just that, seeking and seekers. They are seeking because the status quo doesn’t make sense: it doesn’t feel right. There is an alienation from oneself, and there is a discomfort about that…
